European Union diplomacy chief Josep Borrell has invited Kosovo Prime Minister Albin Kurti to a meeting in Brussels, and Serbia's President Aleksandar Vuciq confirmed Free Europe's sources in the European bloc.
Kurti and Vuciq have received the invitation to continue dialogue, where all open issues between the two states will be discussed.
Sources in Brussels warn that tensions are the direct consequence of the lack of vulnerable leaders to sit down and continue dialogue.
Officials in Brussels stressed that prior to the start of summer holidays in the EU, a meeting between Kosovo and Serbia leaders was scheduled to be held.
Because of that fact [the lack of meeting] now we have tensions that have the potential to escalate because we have a hot topic again. Any responsible politician would board the plane and come to Brussels as soon as possible in order to find a solution in Brussels”, a European official said. REL under anonymity.
According to REL sources, Borrell's invitation to the meeting in Brussels is open, and there is currently no date for the new round of dialogue because “all depends on the political will of Kosovo leaders and Serbia”.
So far, there is no confirmation of the participation of Kosovo and Serbian leaders in this meeting, called by Borrell.
As confirmed in Brussels, EU representatives have been in constant contact with representatives of Pristina and Belgrade during July 31st, when barricades were established in northern Kosovo by local Serbs.
Barricades were countering to two Kosovo Government decisions on Serbian plates and documents.
Under the decision, all citizens of Serbia who enter Kosovo will be equipped with a document for entry and exits with entry into state territory. This document will be worth 90 days.
Meanwhile, the second decision for the license plates says all persons with acronym plates of Kosovo cities issued by Serbia must re-register their cars.
After tensions in northern Kosovo, the Kosovo government pledged it would postpone implementing the decision for 30 days when the barricades are removed.
Some barricades in Rudare began leaving in the morning of August 1.
Otherwise, under the EU-brokered dialogue Kurti and Vuciq have met twice, and both meetings have not produced any concrete results.
Their last meeting was held in July 2021.
