China warns “targeted military” due to Peloss visit

The Chinese military has been placed on high alert and will launch “targeted military” in response to the visit to Taiwan of the head of the United States House of Representatives, Nancy Pelosi, the Chinese Defence Ministry said on the evening of August 2nd. In a separate report, the East Command of China's People's Army said it would hold joint military operations near Taiwan on Tuesday evening.
Military exercises will include air and sea exercises in the north, southeast and southeast of Taiwan.
The Chinese Defence Ministry did not elaborate on what will include targeted military operations, or whether they were separated from the exercises warned by the Eastern Command.
Earlier, state news agency Xinhua reported that the Chinese army will hold five-day exercises around Taiwan from 4 August to 7 August.
Pelos on arriving in Taiwan said US solidarity with Taiwanese people is more important than ever before.
Her visit has raised tensions between Beijing and Washington, while China has said Peloss “seriously reflects China's sovereignty and territorial integrity”.
Also, on August 2nd, defence authorities in Taiwan announced that 21 Chinese fighter planes have flown over Taiwan. / REL/
