U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention say the nation must leave restrictive measures such as quarantine and social distance and focus on reducing serious diseases from COVID-19, writes CNN, broadcast the Kosovo Clan.
In the new guidelines released Thursday, the agency no longer recommends being at least 20 feet [6 m] away from other people to reduce the risk of exposure a change from the instructions they had been in force since the early days of pandemic.
The difference is a sign of how much has changed since the beginning of the pandemic more than two years ago. Almost all US populations have at least some immunity through vaccine, previous infection, or, in some cases, both.
The current conditions of this pandemic are very different from those in the past two years,” said on Thursday Greta Massetti, which heads the Epidemiology and ground prevention in the CDC.
The high levels of population immunity because of vaccine and previous infection and numerous available means to protect the general population and protect people at higher risk allow us to focus on protecting people from serious diseases from COVID-19”.
New CDC guidelines say that contact tracking, another identifying mark during the pandemic, should be limited to hospitals and certain situations of the high-risk living group, such as the homes of elders, and guidelines do not stress the use of regular testing to control COVID-19, in addition to some high-risk environments such as old homes and prisons.
The new guidance also does not advise quarantine of people who have been exposed to COVID-19, but are not infected.
Guidance carries some same measures. It encourages testing for people with symptoms and their close contacts. It also says that positive people have to stay home for at least five days and wear a mask around others for 10 days. It is also recommended that people wear masks in internal objects in about half the country.
New guidelines also adapt advice on isolation for people who became very ill by COVID-19. People with moderate symptoms such as panting and hospital patients must stay home for at least 10 days. People with the compromised immune system now need to talk to their doctor about completing their isolation after an infection.
There are new advice on what to do if your symptoms of COVID-19 recover as well. If you stop isolation and symptoms get worse, you have to start isolation again and consult your doctor.
