Eurostat ranked Albania as the country with the highest percentage of the population in Europe that is endangered by poverty and social exclusion.
Eurostat recently released the progress that European countries have made in the global objectives of sustainable development, in which more than 46 percent of Albania's population grew from poverty and social exclusion in 2020 (the data for Albania is due to 2019).
As seen by the related graph, this is the highest level in Europe and by an apparent difference from other countries in the region, such as Macedonia and Montenegro, which have the poverty - prone population at high levels.
One family's income is a key determination to its standard of living, but other aspects may prevent people in some countries from participating fully in social activities, such as. barriers to involvement in labour markets or material deprivation.
To reflect these different dimensions of poverty or social exclusion, the broad indicator “threatened by poverty or social exclusion” measures the number of people affected in at least one of the following three forms of poverty or social exclusion:
Income poverty;
Heavy material poverty and social deprivation;
- Very low work intensity
Data for the three components stems from EU income statistics and living conditions (EU-SILC). For the three components together, Albania has been estimated by nearly half of its poverty-dangered population.
According to INSTAT's internal measurements, the risk limit of being poor for one person in 2020 has been estimated at 186,242, compared with $170,785 in 2019 and 160,742 in 2018. In 2020, 621,504 individuals living under the risk of being poor were estimated to be 659,138 individuals valued in 2019.
The risk of poverty or social exclusion in 2020, according to INSTAT, was 43.4 percent, versus 46.2 percent estimated in 2019.
The deepening rate of material deprivation indicating the percentage of individuals living in families who do not face at least 4 of the 9 categories of material deprivation has been estimated at 34.7 percent in 2020, versus 37.1 percent estimated in 2019, marking a 2.4 percentage point. /Monitor/
