An 81-year-old travelling from Africa to Canada was arrested at Warsaw Airport under suspicion of illegal possession of heroin worth over $555,000, officials in Poland said on Friday.
Customs officers at Frederick Chopin Airport decided to check the woman's luggage from Denmark on Sunday as she was crossing transit after suspicious of her route and unpleasant behaviour, writes ABCnews.
At the end of a fake suitcase, five kilograms of heroin were discovered.
The woman, who traveled from Malawi and Kenya through Dohas and Warsaw, denied every accusation and said family members had given her the briefcase with gifts for relatives in Canada, according to Alexandra Scrzynaz, a spokesperson for the prosecutor's office in Warsaw.
It was detained for three months, and prosecutors have launched an investigation. Under Polish law, it faces 15 years in prison for illegal possession of narcotics. /Euronews. al
