Last Saturday, an 11-year-old kid in the Arberia Lage park and then another location has been violated by five people, now identified as being arrested, whose police ban has been imposed on him to proceed according to previous legal procedures.
This was one of the most serious cases of rape, so it rightly put the chain reaction of Kosovo society in motion.
KMDLNj deems this violation a serious violation of human rights and demands that investigations in this case have absolute priority. KMDLNj commends the Kosovo Police for a quick and professional move in identifying and arresting suspects for this serious violation.
KMDLNj requires citizens to present cases in order to prevent and not only deal with consequences like the last case. For setting the conviction rate for the accused, legal and sole responsibility are held by courts, following the proceedings of evidence.
KMDLNj considers euphoric reactions -- those made by high political and institutional positions are pressure, both in investigative work and judicial decision-making. They are outside any normal, moral and legal context to seek the application of measures that are contrary to the rule of law and laws in power. Either we have to trust the law and the state as the advocate of human rights of all citizens or customary law.
KMDLNj expects justice to be decided in place for the raped child of 11 and her family, always in accordance with the laws in force.
