This statement, Zelensky made in his address at night. Ukrainian Prime Minister Denys Schmyhal also said exports had begun with a 100 megawatt volume four months after Russia's war against Ukraine, writes The Guardian.
President Zelensky said the launch of exports was another key step in our movement towards the European Union”.
“Thanks to Ukraine's electricity, a considerable portion of Russian gas used by European consumers can be replaced. So this is not just an export income issue for us, it's a security issue for all of Europe. Let me remind you that our country's connection to the EU's common energy system was already made after the start of the war. Ukraine is doing things now that once seemed impossible”.
Ukraine reached agreement in mid-March to join the European Network of Broadcasting System Operators ( Entso-E) as observers, as its network was connected to that of the EU.
Entso-E said this week that preparations had ended for the first exports from Ukraine, along with energy from the former Soviet state of Moldova, starting on June 30th using an interconnection with Romania.
