Videos on social networks showed major explosions Tuesday evening near the “Antonivskyi” ) main point of crossing the Dnipro River to the Kherson region, which essentially links Ukraine with Russia's annexed Crime.
Nataliya Humenick, spokeswoman for the South Operational Command, said of local televisions: “Yes, there was a blow to the bridge and they were exact”.
“Antonivskyi” is one of three bridges that had previously been hit by Ukrainian long-range artillery in an attempt to stop Russian reinforcements and supplies being moved to Kherson from Crime.
Last week, Russian state media reported that Ukraine used long-range missiles offered by the West to hit the bridge for two days in a row, causing major damage.
The “Russians were not allowing anyone near the bridge, but restoration would last long and would create problems for Moscow forces”, according to Ukrainian officials.
