Ukraine has hampered an effort to advance Russia north of its Donnetsk region, but the town of Sloveniansk and other civilian areas are being heavily bombed, Ukrainian officials said, according to Sky News.
Russia has increased its focus in Donnetsk, whose southern part already controls it after completing the conquest of the nearby Luhansk region on Sunday with the capture of Lysychansk.
Moscow says the complete extension of the Ukrainian army from both regions is essential to what it calls its <x0->opperation special military” an already four-month offensive, which the West says is an unprotested war.
Ukrainian officials said fierce fighting was under way as Russian forces tried to advance from Luhansk in the Donnetsk region and towards the town of Slovenansk.
“Luhansk Governor Serhiy Gaidai told Ukrainian television.
