Trumpets of Trump and Mike Pence show deep republican divisions

In duel speeches not far from the US Congress on Tuesday, former President Donald Trump reiterated false claims about the elections that triggered the January 6th attack, while his former vice president, Mike Pence, called on the Republican Party to stop looking back. Although they are likely to be potential rivals to seek the republican party's candidacy in the 2024 presidential elections, none of them were ready to announce the campaign. But their speeches highlighted party divisions between Trump's faithful and republican ones, who can still enjoy Trump's ideas but are more than willing to move forward.
The former president was unwilling to continue.
Those choices were a disaster. A disgrace to our country,” said Mr. Trump, insisting despite all evidence that he had won in 2020. And he continued to stir up the idea of his plans for the future, telling his cheering crowd: “We may just have to go in again. ”
Federal and state election officials from both parties, and Trump's own attorney general, have said there is no credible evidence that the 2020 elections were manipulated. The former president's charges of fraud were also rejected by the courts, including judges appointed by Trump.
In an opposite approach from Trump, former Vice President Pence said: “Some people may choose to focus on the past, but elections have to do with the future. ”
Addressing the New American Foundation, a conservative student group, Mr. Pence said: “I believe conservatives should focus on the future to regain America. We cannot afford to take our eyes off the road before us, because the very survival of our lifestyle is at stake”.
Donald Trump also said America's survival was in danger. In a speech focused on public security, he said the country was in imminent danger from crime. He called for the execution of drug dealers, the sending of homeless people to cities that protect them and the expansion of its southwest border wall to keep thousands of violent criminals out of America who he said resumed pouring into the country after Joe Biden came to the White House.
Donald Trumpi addressed a summit organised by a group of former White House officials and cabinet members who have drafted a agenda for a possible second administration of Mr. Trump.
But he spent much time repeating his usual complaints.
“If I gave up my beliefs, if I agreed to keep quiet, if I were to stay home and take it easily, Donald Trump's persecution would stop immediately”, he said. “But that's not what I'm going to do”
It was his first trip to Washington since January 20, 2021, when Mr. Biden was sworn in, despite Trump's intense efforts to remain in power.
He spoke after some of his potential 2024 rivals have become increasingly vocal in their willingness to challenge him. They include former Pence Vice President, who described his “Freedom Agency” in a nearby speech.
Former White House partners were again making duel presentations after the campaign for rival candidates who supported in Arizona on Friday. Their separate talks come amid reports that former head of staff of Mr. Pence, Marc Short, testified before a large federal jury investigating the January 6, 2021 attack on the US Capitol.
Mr. Short was in the Capitol that day as Mr. Pence left an angry mob of rebels who demanded his hanging after Trumpi wrongly insisted that the former vice president Pence had the power to overturn the election results.
Pence has repeatedly defended his actions that day, even though his decision to oppose his boss turned much of Trump's loyal base against him. Polls show Trump remains, so far, the main election of Republican party voters with Mr. Pence far behind him.
That contrast appeared Tuesday as Trump spoke in front of an audience of hundreds of cheering supporters gathered for the two-day meeting of the first-ever Political Institute of America (AFIP). Made up of former officials and allies of the Trump administration, the group is widely seen as a pending “administration” that can move quickly to the White House if Trump runs back and wins.
Meanwhile, Pence received a friendly welcome but not enthusiastic welcome from students who tried to cheer up “USA!
In his speech, he repeatedly promoted “The Trump-Pence administration.” But the first question he received during a brief questioning session was about his growing separation from Mr. Trump, who is especially cut in view of the years he spent as the president's former loyal assistant.
Mike Pence denied that both “changed on questions”, but admitted that “n can change focus”.
“I really believe that elections have to do with the future and that they are absolutely essential, at a time when so many Americans are suffering and so many families are fighting, while we look forward to seeing from the past,” he said.
Also Tuesday, Simon & publishing house Schuster announced the title of Mr. Pence's next book, “So Help with God”, which will be published in November. The publishing staff said the book will partly describe “the impact of its relationship by President Trump on January 6, 2021, when Mr. Pence took the oath made to the Constitution. ”
Donald Trump has spent a lot of time leaving office spreading lies about his loss in elections to sow doubts about Mr. Biden's victory. Indeed, although the House of Representatives Commission has highlighted its efforts to stay in power and its refusal to stop a violent crowd of its supporters while they try to stop the peaceful transition of power, Trump has continued to try to pressure officials to overthrow Joe Biden's victory, despite having no legal means to prove it.
