The country's Air Force confirmed that 73-year-old flew to Maldive with his wife and two security officials.

The departure of Rajapapasa ends a family dynasty that has ruled Sri Lanka for decades.
The president had been hiding after the crowds entered his residence on Saturday and had vowed to resign Wednesday 13 July.
A source told the BBC that Rajapapax will not stay on Maldives and aims to travel to a third country.
His brother, former Finance Minister Basil Rajapaxa, has also left Sri Lanka and is said to be going to the US.
