Sri Lanka's prime minister, Ranil Wickreminghe, has told the army to do “whatever is needed to restore order” after protesters attacked his office Wednesday.
Wickreminghe has been appointed acting president by President Gotabaya Rajapapasa, who has fled the country.
But the decision to leave him at the helm prompted further protests, demanding that the prime minister leave as well.
Sri Lanka has suffered from its worst economic crisis in decades.
Many thirsty people blame the Rajapapasa administration for the crisis and see Wickreminghe, who became prime minister in May, as part of the problem.
