Obama, who had worked closely with Abe when the two were leaders of their respective countries, said: “I am shocked and sad at the murder of my friend and longtime partner Shinzo Abe, in Japan. Former Prime Minister Abe was committed to both the country he served as well as the extraordinary alliance between the United States and Japan”.
I will always remember the work we have done to empower our alliance, the experience of the joint trip to Hiroshima and Pearl Harbor. Michelle and I send the most sincere condolences to the people of Japan who are in our minds at this tragic moment”, Obama said.
Shinzo Abe was killed today following a shooting attack on the town of Nara when he was making a speech about the election campaign. /Periscopi/
