NATO Summit: What new weapons have been promised to Ukraine?

As NATO leaders met in Madrid this week, Ukraine sought heavy weapons to overcome Russian aggression. But what is promised, and how many are the promises fulfilled? This week in Britain over 450 Ukrainian troops completed training for the use of new weapons, including modern missile systems “M LRS”, capable of launching several rockets immediately. These weapons are valued as crucial in the fight against Russian artillery.
Western “Ricettes have investigative capabilities and are more advanced than Russian weapons. This gives Ukrainians more space of action”, says British Army captain James Olyphant.
Britain and the United States have supplied Ukraine with several systems, such as other heavy weapons, among other things fears, autoblinda, and air protection systems.
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky told NATO leaders that his country urgently needs more advanced weapons.
By giving us these weapons, you can completely destroy the Russian tactics of destroying cities and terrorizing the civilian population”.
NATO is not supplying Ukraine with weapons. The Voice of America spoke with former Deputy Assistant US Secretary of Defence for Europe and NATO Jim Townsend.
“NATO, as an institution, is not offering weapons because it does not have them. Her allies are doing this. To NATO, it has supported countries that have helped according to the possibility. The pace of embezzlement and training must match the needs of the situation, and this is happening”.
Despite the restrictions, some NATO members have made new promises at the Madrid summit. President Joe Biden said additional military support, of 800 million dollars, was on its way to Ukraine . Part of Washington's $7 billion pledge to Ukraine.
New advanced air defence systems for Ukraine, artillery and ammunition, radar against artillery, additional ammunition for HIMARS missile systems, which we have already given to Ukraine and more such systems from other countries”, President Biden said as he spoke of military aid to Ukraine.
On Thursday, Britain pledged $1.3 billion in military aid, bringing its overall contribution to $2.8 billion.
France said it plans to send six additional systems of long-range artillery to 18. According to reports, Ukraine has placed these weapons on the Black Sea, near Snake Island, recovered from Ukrainian forces.
Germany has pledged to send 15 antiaircraft tanks in July, while Spain is considering sending about 40 German production Leopard tanks, though Berlin's approval is required.
As the war enters the fifth month, the West has not yet supplied Ukraine with the amount of heavy weapons required by it. Fabrice Pothier, former NATO Policy Planning Chief, tells the Voice of America that the West should make deeper political calculations.
“There is the thinking of a political estimate that this will feed and affect an escalation that comes out of control. In a way, I understand this logical way, but I think it's extremely wrong. Because basically, it means we're asking Mr. Zelensky to fight with a hand tied to his back. ”
Ukraine says it needs a ten-fold increase in weapons supply to cope with the Russian Army's arsenal.
