More than 500 people participated in an online survey in France, Germany, Italy, Spain, Holland, and Poland in April. Nearly half of them said that they suffered from more stress than before pandemic. One third said their mental health was negatively affecting productivity.
Overall, 41% of those surveyed by Lifeworks were considered at high risk for a mental - health disorder, such as anxiety and depression. This is nearly triple the reported percentage in polls conducted at 2017-2019, ahead of the pandemic.
This time period will be important in history, I think, for the ruthless riots going through populations,” told Euromother Next, Lifeworks leader Paula Allen.
When you think about what the Europeans have been through, you really understand why this happened. We had pandemics, economic impact of pandemic, isolation, sense of loss of control”, she said. And when we started to see light at the end of the tunnel, the war in Ukraine took place”.
Young people, women, parents, and lower incomes are struggling more, says the report. The link between income and mental health is “very strong”, Allen said. The workers are now anxious about high inflation, and the fear that they cannot succeed.
More than a third of respondents said they have no savings for emergency cases.
