Montenegro's Democratic Party of Socialists, which is led by the president of this country, Milo Djukanovic, has stopped backing Prime Minister Dritan Abazovic's government.
This was decided after the party's leadership meeting.
In the party's announcement, the reason for this step's company is the Constitutional Agreement with the Serbian Orthodox Church, which was voted by the majority of the ministers of the Abazovic Government on Friday, 8 July.
The DPS said the agreement with the Serbian Church threatens Montenegro's state interests.
This party estimates that the Government changed the political course it agreed to with its formation.
The government abandoned the priority task of fulfilling obligations from the European integration agenda and hastily and irresponsiblely, without consulting experts, made deals with the Orthodox Church, causing incalculable damage to Montenegro's state interests”.

Montenegrin Prime Minister Dritan Abazovic spoke after this development.
Abazovic said he welcomes this party's decision.
It's a responsibility when you can't help the state, at least don't make it difficult. We will see the position of most deputies”, Abazovic wrote.

Dritan Abazovic's government was formed on April 28th, after the previous government of Zdravko Krivokapiq collapsed in February this year.
This government collapsed at the initiative of Dritan Abazovic, who was in charge of deputy prime minister.
The Montenegrin president's party has 29 deputies and is the main political force in this country's assembly.
