Czech Council EU Presidency programme published, will visa liberalisation for Kosovo be focused

Chechia has taken up staff from France to lead the EU Council presidency for the next six months. The Czech presidency has published its programme with priorities that will take place in the last six months of 2022. The 67-page programme reportedly will give special attention to developments in the Western Balkans, following Russian aggression in Ukraine, with particular emphasis on normalising relations between Kosovo and Serbia.
The Czech presidency will support political dialogue between the EU and the Western Balkans and focus on the impact of Russia's military aggression against Ukraine in the region. Special attention will be given to developments in Bosnia and Herzegovina and normalisation of relations between Serbia and Kosovo”, said in the programme.
Visa liberalisation for Kosovo as the issue is cited in the Czech presidency programme, but in focus it will be expanding the Schengen area, including Croatia, Bulgaria and Romania.
Chechia will also host a Ministerial Conference with Western Balkan countries and countries from Eastern Europe, Central Asia and Turkey in October.
The Czech presidency will organise the Prague Process Ministerial Conference in October 2022 with the participation of Western Balkan states, countries from Eastern Europe and Central Asia, and Turkey, which will aim to confirm and strengthen the countries' commitments in all areas of co-operation”, it is further said.
France has led with the presidency of the EU Council from January 1st to June 30th 2022. During this period there has been no push ahead of the issue of visa liberalisation for Kosovo.
