Former Tokyo Governor Yoichi Masuzoe said in a post in Titter that 67-year-old Abe was in a state of cardiopulmonary arrest. This term is often used in Japan before a death is officially confirmed.
“ish-Prime Minister Abe was shot around 11:30 local time in Nara. A man believed to have carried out the attack has been arrested. The situation of former Prime Minister Abe is currently unknown”, cabinet chief Hirokazu Matsuno told reporters.
Whatever the reason, such a barbarian act can never be tolerated, and we strongly condemn it”.

Videos that are being circulated in social media that could not be verified show a bunch of people around Abe. He's already been taken to the hospital.
Abe was giving a speech to a candidate in Nara when the attack occurred and was calling on voters to support his party in the election.
He was the longest-lived prime minister in power. Abe served for a year in 2006 and then again from 2012 to 2020.
