Scharping: Scholzi's message was clear, Serbia cannot become an EU member without recognising Kosovo

Former German Defence Minister Rudolf Scharping says the message of German Chancellor Olaf Scholz, during his visit to the Western Balkans, was clear that Serbia cannot become a member of the European Union without recognising Kosovo's independence. “I would argue that although Serbia is being seen and acting as [...]
“I would argue that although Serbia is being seen and acting as an ally of Russia, Serbia is a state that should receive a very clear message and German Chancellor delivered this message, very clearly, that if you do not respect and recognise Kosovo as an independent state, then you have no chance to become a member of the European Union and co-operate before you become a member, to co-operate more closely with the European Union<1>
This was a very clear message that removes any confusion, and I'm very supportive of”, Scharping says.
Scharping in Klan Kosova also spoke of Serbian President Aleksandar Vuciq's reaction, following this Scholz statement.
That which I think was surprised by Vuciq was the clear and public wording, I don't believe she was surprised by the content of the message, but by the wording, the message was given to him, maybe, I don't know, it doesn't make sense that we now speculate”
“The message was clear and we now have to find practical issues step by step and I know there are many proposals on the table to find a way, as we did with Germany in the late 1960s and in the early 1970s, to reach a step-by-step agreement through the reduction of tensions and to make the daily lives of the citizens, for whom we are working better than it was in the past” says Scharping.
