“Belgrade owes nothing to Brussels”, Russian Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova said, commenting on Scholz's statement on the need for Serbia to recognise Kosovo's independence in order to join the European Union.
“A are these enemies of Serbia?”, Zakharova asks, adding that the West is indebted to Serbs. Serbian people are already being told what to do and how to do. What happens next?
Reporting this reaction, media in Moscow brought Serbian Interior Minister Alexander Vulin to the attention of the call for his country to reconsider plans for EU integration.
Reactions from Moscow come after Scholz's statement during his visit to Pristina, which said he fails to imagine that two countries that do not recognise each other become part of the EU, consisting in Kosovo and Serbia.
It is clear that the agreement should eventually clarify the issue of Kosovo's recognition, because it cannot be imagined that two countries that do not recognise each other become EU members”, Scholz said in the capital.
