Police in Istanbul have hampered a march in support of the LGBT community (homosexual, lesbian, bisexual and transgiar) and banned hundreds of protesters on 26 June.
The governor's office has halted the march around Taksim Square, in Istanbul's heart, but hundreds of protesters have carried colorful flags near that area, challenging the ban.
Organisers have said that more than 200 participants and activists for the LGBT community have been detained and police have refused to enable access to their lawyers.
Some of them were later released.
A Turkish journalist has said some people were beaten by police.
Authorities, on the other hand, have not disclosed the number of arrests.
European Council for Human Rights Commissioner Dunja Mijatovic has called on authorities on June 24th to allow the march and ensure the safety of participants.
Turkey has become one of the few Muslim states that allowed the Croatia Parade in 2003.
However, such gears have been halted since 2015, citing security issues. /Rel
