Edi Rama: Bajram Begaj getting ready to be president of the Republic

Recalling that the process started with secret envelopes where the Socialists made their proposals for the president, Rama said all names have been reviewed in order.

“I can thank all members of the parliamentary group for contributing to this process, which is not easy because it comes to identifying an figure that has to meet very specific requirements, but at the same time guarantee the respect and non-conception of all potential candidates. The process that we developed here in the group gave us the right at the end, taking proposals from all of the group's membership, which later became available to the SP leadership”.

Finally, the Socialists were surprised when they came up under the name of Bajram Begaj. Rama at the Parliamentary Group meeting, says he was elected Begaj as a senior professional profile and was not involved in political conflicts.

“A figure with as high an institutional profile as it is, so much and unannounced in all clashes or roads that cross the political arena, which makes us feel today relieved by the burden of selection, as the dominant force, which has and dominant responsibility to lead the country and makes us feel good to Albanians”, he said, TCh.

Currently, the Socialists will garner votes for candidate Bajram Begaj. At least the signatures of 20 MPs are needed to support a candidate, who will then be formally deposited in the assembly.

The deadline set by the Conference of Speakers is at 12: 00 today.

At 4: 00 a.m., the Law Commission will meet to review the constitutional legal criteria of candidate proposed by the Socialists. Then, at 6:00 a.m., the session will begin in the Assembly.

Today will be the fourth round of the process of electing the president, but the first round where there is a candidate whose name is deposited in the assembly.

In this round, 71 votes, which the majority has, are enough to appoint the successor of Ilir Meta, who hands over the post 24 July.
