In a statement by the prime minister's spokesman, it says: “We are deeply concerned with this decision. We have repeatedly said that prisoners of war cannot be exposed for political purposes. Everyone knows that under the Geneva Convention, prisoners of war have immunity and they cannot be prosecuted for participating in hostility. So we will continue to work with Ukrainian authorities to try to ensure the release of every British citizen who has been serving in the Ukrainian Armed Forces and who are being held as prisoners of war”
