Interior Minister Jedal Svecla has been declared for Afghan refugees who continue to be in Kosovo to carry out the necessary security and self-surfying procedures.
He said he has accepted many questions on this issue, but said Kosovo institutions as bearers of this process cannot reveal the privacy of citizens stationed in the country's camps, until he announced that a group of them are standing in the Liya camp and after procedures will be sent to other states.
With attention, I conveyed recent reports and statements regarding the position of Afghan citizens in Kosovo, and we have accepted questions from many local media and not only. Both the Government of the Republic of Kosovo and as the Minister of Internal Affairs, the bearer of this process, we are extremely happy that in close partnership with the United States, we enabled the temporary expectation and protection of Afghan citizens evacuated by their country. As institutions of the Republic of Kosovo, we remain fully devoted to providing security, well-being and, above all, maintaining the privacy of citizens placed in our camps”.
In this regard, Svechla said we could not and would not comment on any case individually.
Since the beginning of this process we have been in constant communication with our allies, the United States, including the status of citizens located at the Liya camp. As we have repeatedly announced, most Afghan citizens temporarily sheltered in our country have successfully passed security and property processes. As a result of this process, about 600 Afghan citizens have travelled to the United States to continue a new life, and we are very satisfied for this”.
The interior minister also announced that the US is currently working hard to meet all the requirements related to security, health and accommodation of a small number of Afghan citizens still standing in Liya camp.
Afghan citizens will continue to leave in the direction of the United States after the security and property procedures are completed, and also after meeting the health and communication requirements needed to enter the US. Likewise, those who will not pass the property process, the United States will see to it that they are accommodated in third states”.
The next few days, the next group of citizens will leave for a new life in the United States.
Svecla added that the Government of the Republic of Kosovo has no doubt in implementing agreements and co-operation with the US Government, and we will do whatever is possible to facilitate this process and also advance relations with the US.
