Finland announced that President Saul Niinsto has made clear to his Russian counterpart, Vladimir Putin, that they will apply for NATO membership.
According to Russia's state medium “RIA”, Putin has told the Finnish president that abandoning neutrality would be a mistake.
The Russian leader has also reportedly told Niinistos that there are no threats to Finland's security and that a change in Finland's foreign policy would be negative for bilateral relations.
