Osman vs Kurti for demarcation with Montenegro: No longer is the issue of politicians

Kosovo President Vjosa Osmani has said that the dispute between Kosovo and Montenegro over the border line, It's not a matter of politicians anymore, but of experts.

In her speech at the Southeast European Democracy Summit on the subject “War in Europe: The impact on the Balkans”, which began Monday in Montenegro, Osmani said politicians have said their word, thus referring to the voting of the demarcation agreement in the respective municipalities.

“Politicians Will Stop SpeakingExperts will establish a joint commission to set the border. It is already up to experts to continue the job, not politicians who finished the job by ratifying the” documents, Osmani said, conveys the Malaysian portal “CDM”

Montenegro's Prime Minister, Dritan Abazovic, has recently said that Montenegro has completed demarcation with Kosovo and that it sees no possibility for its revision.

In fact, this issue has caused major clashes in the Kosovo Assembly at the time it was ratified. According to then opposition parties, Kosovo has pardoned Montenegro over 8,000 hectares of land.

The issue of ratification of the border demarcation agreement was also related to visa liberalisation, but the agreement was voted and liberalisation has not occurred yet.

To reduce tensions then, it was agreed between the two governments to establish commissions to review the border line “if there are errors”.

At the summit organised by the US International Republican Institute, US envoy for the Western Balkans Gabriel Escobar, the envoy of Britain for the Western Balkans, Stuart Peach, and the EU for Kosovo-Serbia dialogue Miroslav Lajcak are also participating.

Also, participants are regional leaders, like Montenegrin Prime Minister Dritan Abazovic, Montenegrin European Affairs Minister Jovana Marovic and Northern Macedonia Deputy Prime Minister Bojan Marichikij.

Meanwhile, in March of this year, KPrime Minister Albin Kurti hadClaimed he was expecting the formation of Montenegro's new government (in charge of Prime Minister Dritan Abazovic) now to discuss the demarcation issue.

“Hopefully Montenegro will soon have new Government that we will be able to discuss and address. Unlike the preliminary government, which had pro-Russian elements inside, except for Belgrade and of course there were no conditions for such treatment”, Kurti had declared.

But shortly after being elected prime minister, Dr. Abazovic said the demarcation case is over.
