It has not yet been made clear what caused the explosion.
The town, which is about 55km southeast of Ljubljana's capital, has a population of about 8,000.
“We call on all residents in nearby areas to close the windows and not go out during intervention”, police are quoted as saying by local media.
According to them, a local Emergency Council has met as firefighters and ambulance teams have arrived at the Melam factory.
The Melam factory has about 200 workers. /rel
