So said in a communiqué issued by European authorities, following an informal meeting that European top diplomat Josep Borrell carried out with top Western Balkan officials.

In this communiqué it has been said that the meeting has been an opportunity to exchange thoughts about challenges in the region and the European future of the region.

“Fokus at Wednesday's meeting on May 11th was the global and regional impact of the illegal and unprotested war against Ukraine and its people, and how the EU and partners from the Western Balkans can jointly address the damage and consequences of this war, both in food and energy prices and in regional and global stability”, this communique is said.

High representative Borrell has welcomed the full support of partners from the Western Balkans in the UN General Assembly for resolutions concerning Russia's aggression against Ukraine. The high representative has announced the EU's response to Ukraine's support, including the reserve measures aimed at limiting the Kremlin's capacity to finance the war. He has reiterated the importance of adapting to foreign and security policy, as the central element on the European path” is further said in the communiqué, adding that the “liders have confirmed their strategic commitment to EU integration and regional co-operation”

So far, Serbia is the only Western Balkan country that has not backed the European Union's sanctions on Russia.

The EU has warned that discussions with Western Balkan countries will continue next week at the level of foreign ministers.
