Sergey Protosenya is believed to have killed Natalia's wife, and his 18-year-old daughter at his villa in Lloret de Mar in Costa Brava, Spain, according to local media.
The 55-year-old held the post of vice-chairman at the Board of Directors for the Novak natural gas company for more than seven years, and has collected a fortune of about 330m euros.
The Russian family lived in France, but visited the Spanish residence as their second home, reports say.
Protosenaya and his 53-year-old wife had two children together, the 18-year-old victim and a teenage boy who was in France at the time of the murders.
The teenage boy called the Catalan police, when he was unable to contact any of his family members, reports Mirror, broadcast Klankosova.tv.
The officers searched the villa and found Protosenya dead in the courtyard before finding the lifeless bodies of his wife and teenage daughter at home.
According to local reports, police are working on the hypothesis that Protosenya killed his wife and daughter with an axe while they were sleeping.
