About 8 thousand British troops are expected to participate in exercises in Eastern Europe in response to Russian aggression, which will be one of the largest maneuvers since the Cold War, writes The Guardian, following Periscope.
Tens of tanks will be placed in the countries starting from Finland to North Macedonia this summer, where thousands of NATO troops and the Joint Development Force coalition will be involved in Finland and Sweden.
The Ministry of Defence of Great Britain said the action was planned long ago and has now expanded in response to Ukraine's Russian occupation.
Defence Secretary Ben Wallace has said that Europe's “security has never been more important. These exercises will enable our troops to join allies and partners around NATO and the Joint Expensionist Force on display of solidarity and power in one of the biggest joint delocations since the Cold War”.
The announcement that Great Britain will conduct large-scale exercises in Europe came after Vladimir Putin threatened with attacks on Western targets, warning of a swift light response to countries interfering with Ukraine.
The operation, dubbed “Hedeg”, will begin in May and include exercises of British troops at the Estonia-Litovini border along with 18,000 NATO troops, including French and Danish forces.
