Russian forces took control of Chernobyl at the beginning of the attack on Ukraine last month. The Ukrainian state agency, managing Chernobyl, Europe's worst nuclear accident area in 1986, says that the $6 million laboratory was built with European Union investments in 2015.
“The laboratory contained high radioactivity samples, which are now in the hands of the enemy”, the Ukrainian state agency says, adding that the radioactival monitoring system around Chernobyl is not functioning.
