Traders have exported Ukrainian corn supplies to Europe by train as the country's maritime ports remain blocked due to Russian occupation, agricultural consultancy said Sunday ( APK Information.
Ukraine is a leading global cereal producer and exporter, and almost all its exports are traditionally transported from its Black Sea ports. Monthly grain exports exceeded 5 million tons before the war.
Businessmen and agriculture officials have said that Ukraine, which still has considerable volume of grain in storage, could start exporting by train through its western border.
The first several thousand tons of corn “has already been exported across Ukraine's western land border,”, the APK-Inform said in a report.
“The difficulties with logistics continue, the offer still prevails over demand, but prices have ceased to fall,” he added.
The APK-Inform said Ukrainian corn prices for buyers from Poland and the Baltic states were between 250 and $225 per tonne and $275 per tonne for Slovakia.
Ukrainian transport authorities have said that up to 600,000 tonnes of grain per month can be exported by trains from Ukraine to Europe.
The agenda said last week that Ukraine's wheat exports could reach 44m tonnes in the 2021/22 July-June season. / REL
