His mother, Irina, died of a blood poisoning when he was a year old and his father died two years later, after an accident with a building creation.
Abramovich was raised by family members, spending time in Komi, northwest Russia, where there was little money and temperatures have been low.
If I tell the truth, I can't call my childhood bad”, he said earlier about the British daily Guardian.
You can't compare things in childhood: one eats carrots, the other bonbonnes, both taste well. As a child, you can't make any difference”.
He left school when he was 16, worked as a mechanic and served for the Red Army before selling plastic games in Moscow.
Later he sold perfumes and built his property in the period of great opening, when former Soviet elite Mikhail Gorbachev created more space for entrepreneurs.
He has become an ally of former Russian President Boris Yelts and a player on Moscow's post-Soviet political scene.
He even had an apartment in the Kremlin for a period.
When Yelts resigned in 1999, Abramovich is said to have been among those who have backed, that world Prime Minister and former spy chief Vladimir Putin, as president of the state.
As Putin has been increasing his position, he has also been aiming to increase his dominance over the oligarchs.
Some have been imprisoned, some have fled the state, but none happened to Abramovichin, broadcast the REL.
In 2000, he was elected governor of the Chukotka region, northeast of Russia.
He has become famous after investing his money in social services, but has resigned in 2008.
Meanwhile, he has reportedly increased his fortune, buying, painting, homes and cars.
In 2003, the Russian tycoon bought the English football club, Chelsea.
I'm sure people will focus on me for three to four days, but that's going to pass”, Abramovich said when he bought the club.
And they'll forget who I am, and I like this stuff”
