In a conversation with the BBC, she said her 48-year-old colleague, driver Andri and heating engineer Vadym, 27, was unable to reach the zoo's underground shelter when the bombings began.
She describes how surreal the dangers she and her team are experiencing during their trip from the park, to a village in northern Kharkiwi.
It looks like a children's game: the first challenge is to reach the bus, then look behind the bushes, move behind the bus and then see if there's security to give the vehicle”, she said.
At the zoo “Feldman Ecopar” live all kinds of animals, including turtles, parrots, capibaras, kangaroos, bears and wolves.
Currently, there is enough food for animals, but the food chain is broken. Mariana fears that soon she will have nothing to eat.
