Peach: Kosovo has sovereign right to prevent Serbian elections

Kosovo has not allowed the organisation of Serbia's elections in its darkness without any agreement between the two countries, despite what the QUINT countries had asked. About this dispute between Kosovo and Serbia has spoken with US Prime Minister for the Western Balkans Sir Stewart Peach in an interview for Montenegrin newspapers “Vijesti”.
I was disappointed by the news that authorities in Kosovo rejected the proposal for a compromise solution to facilitate Kosovo Serbs to vote on Kosovo territory in the upcoming elections in Serbia. While it is clear that Kosovo has sovereign rights to decide whether such a vote will occur, the failure to use the case to reach a practical solution offered in this case questions Kosovo's commitment to fundamental values of inclusion and democratic rights for all citizens living there”, he stated.
The Briton has confirmed that it supports dialogue that is facilitating the European Union through Special Representative Miroslav Lajcak.
There is only one way Serbia and Kosovo reach an agreement on normalising relations, it is through a dialogue mediated by the European Union. The UK has always supported this process, and I, as a personal envoy, am working closely with EU Special Representative Miroslav Lajcak, who is responsible for dialogue”.
He has made it known that it is up to both countries to find a legally binding solution, broadcasting Telegrafi.
“Anyway, we need to remember that ultimately this process belongs to these two countries. They must co-operate in the interest of the people of Kosovo and Serbia, to reach a comprehensive, final, legally binding and sustainable agreement that is acceptable to the international community as well. It is clear that finding a solution is in interest and contributes to the security of the entire region. I call on leaders of both sides to engage in wholehearted and constructive negotiations”, the British claimed.
Otherwise, Peach is reminded he was commander of KFOR Air Force in Kosovo in 2000.
