Citaku stressed that so far it has not been possible because of Russia's influence, but with the creation of a new situation where the latter has been sponsored by the Council of Europe due to aggression against Ukraine, it is the moment for the Kosovo Government to launch membership procedure at this important facility.
Kosovo's “Membership in the Council of Europe represents a multiple benefit for our country in terms of empowering democracy, rule of law and co-operation in the European family and beyond. Among other things, it is a benefit for our citizens, who would be allowed access to justice at the European Court of Human Rights in Strasbourg, where the principles of the European Bill of Human Rights, which are also outlined as entities within the Constitution of the Republic of Kosovo. Article 3 of the Council of Europe's Statut requires a state to respect the principle of rule of law, as well as respect human rights, two pillars that we as a state already have as criteria.”, Citaku said.
The PDK estimates that this is an emergency issue for now, and as a leading opposition party, it will strongly support the government in this state goal and in the next steps it must take for NATO and EU membership.
“Emergency response to threats about security cannot replace in a long-term way, what Kosovo needs today more than ever, NATO membership and the European Union, respectively. For this reason, in view of the political developments going on around us, we call on our government to immediately engage on the diplomatic level, for recognition by the five EU member states, which have not yet recognised Kosovo.”, Citaku stressed.
She said that seeing the threat being made to European security by Russian aggression in Ukraine, which could affect the Republic of Kosovo, The PDK has asked the government to allocate 100m euros for the military.

And so, The PDK has contributed and supported the Parliament Resolution, through which Kosovo has marked the clear difference in supporting Ukraine, with concrete proposals such as sharing a budget to help its citizens, as well as preparation for the expectation of at least 5,000 Ukrainian war-displaced citizens
