“I have requested Lavrov's support to evacuate our citizens”, Cavusoglu said during a news conference Sunday in Antalya. “The phones don't work and the blasts continue. We hope for a development today”.
Cavusoglu said the mosque was intact by a bomb that fell nearby and that buses were waiting to evacuate Turkish citizens from the mosque, adding that the Turkish Foreign Affairs Ministry is in indirect contact with its citizens through field contacts, the newspaper Express follows.
“War became a street fight. It's too dangerous to evacuate people. It takes a humanitarian corridor”, he added.
Ukraine's Foreign Ministry confirmed on Saturday in a tweet that Russian bombings targeted the mosque of Sultan Solomon and his wife Roxolana in Marioupol, where more than 80 adults and children, including some Turkish citizens, had taken refuge.
On Sunday, Turkey's foreign minister said that, despite reports that the mosque was bombed, it remained intact.
