He made these comments Saturday evening, after American President Joe Biden's speech at the Royal Castle in Warsaw, broadcasts PAP.
Biden said in his major speech, which was widely covered by international media that Europe should end its support in Russian fossil fuels and pledged US support for achieving that goal.
“Polonia will be one of the first, if not the first country in the European Union to withdraw fully from Russian oil and coal, but also from Russian gas”, Morawiecki said.
The prime minister went on to say that some EU member states envied Poland that it had already made significant steps to diversify its gas supplies and expand the country's gas infrastructure.
“I think what we're saying right now will be on the main European course in weeks,” he said.
According to Morawieck, Poland could achieve full gas independence from Russia later this year.
“We will try to do it by the end of the third quarter,” he said.
Poland's ambitions were also repeated by the country's president, Andreze Duda.
“Everyone today has become aware that they cannot achieve any diversification because they are dependent on Russia”, Duda said in an interview with the TVN24 broadcaster broadcast on Saturday evening.
Unfortunately, we will be fully independent already this year as we are ready to complete the construction of a gas pipeline from the Norwegian shelf and we will be able to select suppliers,” said Duda, referring to the Baltic pipeline that will pump natural gas from Norwegian deposits to the Polish coast.
When it comes to oil, Poland's independence from Russia is almost “made a fact”, according to the president.
Poland has made intensive efforts to reduce its dependence on Russian gas by expanding its liquefied natural gas terminal (LNG), signing contracts with LNG suppliers and investing in cross-border gas infrastructure.
