It cited the basic criteria for membership in the European Union.
The EU is a peace project and, above all, is a community of values, for the sake of people. That means it applies to all people. A country that wants to meet the EU must not only meet economic criteria, but the issues of democracy, rule of law, respect of international law, these are the fundamental criteria.
You cannot threaten a country and at the same time talk about respect for international law, and that applies to all countries. And there's no quick road or fast mechanisms”, Baerbox saidAccording to official translation.
She cited the criteria leading to the European Union, saying concrete steps should be taken in terms of strengthening democracy.
We're seeing this in Ukraine. For Ukraine, the doors to Europe are open and we are experiencing a situation and right here is where there are different EU attempts to fight each other. So we have made it clear that there is perspective in this direction, but for this there must be concrete steps to strengthen democracy.
I said even earlier that it's not easy for a government to start reforms in a country where you live in a democracy where there are different opinions about fighting corruption or strengthening the law. This is the path leading to Europe”, she addedAccording to official translation.
