Serbia's Speaker, Ivica Dacic, said that if Serbia imposed sanctions on Russia, due to Ukraine's invasion, it would not harm Moscow, but its interests”.
Daciq said Russia is assisting in Serbia's “defence of state and national interests”, because, according to him, it is not allowing Kosovo to “kagame” at the UN Security Council.
“Russia is the only country to veto Kosovo's recognition of the Security Council, while Western countries will not withdraw recognition, but will continue to push it away. Is Russia worth it? With them we would not harm Russia, but ourselves”, Dacic told Serbia's Prva Television.
He said that under negotiations for membership in the European Union, Serbia has taken over to gradually harmonise its foreign and security policy with the EU, but added that Belgrade “would immediately harmonise” if it becomes an EU member tomorrow.
All Western Balkan countries except Serbia have harmonised the sanctions policy against Russia with the European Union.
Serbia is the only candidate country for EU membership that has not imposed sanctions against Russia.
Western sanctions against Russia, in addition, strike -- banking and financial sector, media, air transport, energy, military and high technology.
On March 2nd, at the UN General Assembly session, Serbia has joined the conviction of Ukraine's Russian occupation.
Russia's President Vladimir Putin has issued the order for the invasion on 24 February, as he has not received assurances from NATO that he will no longer expand eastward.
