The Specialised Police Unit Reserve comprised of 92 members of the European Gendarmerie (EUROGENDFOR) from Portugal, France and Italy will land provisionally in Kosovo during the following weeks to reinforce EULEX Specialised Police Unit capacities ( NEPS).
One The SP Reserve Will Support EULEX for meeting its tasks, including as Kosovo's second security responseer if necessary, given the security environment.
One EULEX's SP is Kosovo's second security responser, as part of a three-pronged security response mechanism, where Kosovo Police are the first security responser, EULEX is the second, and KFOR is the third security responder.
EULEX's regular NEP currently consists of 105 police officials from Poland stationed in Mitrovica. The EUROGENDFOR provided NPS consists of 92 gendars: 42 from Portugal, 28 from France and 22 from Italy. They will be located at the EULEX Support complex in Fushe Kosovo and will be under EULEX command. A preliminary team is expected to arrive today, on March 14th.
NPS Reservation testifies to EULEX's commitment to continue supporting Kosovo's stability and contributing to the security of women, men, girls and boys from all communities in Kosovo.
“Context ) The European Force of Gendarmerie is a multinational police force, operational, pre-organised, powerful, and fast-tainable. EULEX's specialised police unit is Kosovo's second security response and provides continued support for Kosovo Police capacity for crowd control and unrest through joint councils and training sessions. The three-pronged security response mechanism in Kosovo consists of the Kosovo Police as the first security responseer, EULEX as the second reacter and KFOR as the third responder. The goal of the second security responseer is to de-empt tensions and restore public order, as well as to protect life, integrity and property of the affected population”, the communique said.
