Skender Hyseni to Periscope: Kosovo urgently works for NATO membership, world is not the same as before February 24th.

Former Foreign Affairs Minister Skender Hyseni, in a proposal for Periscope, has commented on the possibility of starting a Kosovo campaign for NATO membership, where he has said that work for membership in this organisation must start immediately.

This idea is being discussed in the country a lot lately, as the war in Ukraine rocked stability and peace in Europe and under warnings that this conflict can have destabilising influence even in the Western Balkans.

Hyseni has said things moved before February 24th, and this should affect accelerating the work for Kosovo's NATO membership to boost security and stability in the country.

“Bota is no longer what it was before 24 February, respectively, prior to Russian aggression in Ukraine. Kosovo has followed a normal procedure in its bid for NATO membership, but dramatic developments in and around Ukraine, accelerated membership of Kosovo in NATO, make it a priority and an emergency. As the only option guaranteeing the security and stability of our country”, the former Kosovo foreign diplomat has said.

On the other hand, Hyseni has said that Kosovo's dialogue, Serbia, should be completed as soon as possible, and that this topic under these circumstances becomes an urgent topic.

The Russian <x0); the Russian aggression in Ukraine and possible impacts in the Balkans -- and in particular in Kosovo -- are circumstances and dramatic new developments that should be given absolute priority in our foreign policy. The sooner we have Serbia as our first neighbour, the country which is openly declared against NATO membership, supporting de facto Russian politics in Ukraine and Russian aggression. Dialogue with Serbia and the earlier achievement of a final bilateral recognition agreement becomes more urgent, but in addition, work for accelerated NATO membership should start immediately”, Hyseni has said further. /Periscopi/

The former foreign diplomat, expressing optimism for a country's NATO membership, has also provided an idea for the process.

Despite the obstacles, Kosovo can manage and successfully complete this vital mission for the country. Kosovo has a professional army, trained in compliance with NATO standards. Of course, this implies the recognition of Kosovo by four NATO member states that have not yet recognised Kosovo, Greece, Spain, Slovenia and Romania. It is urgent that the heads of state create as soon as possible a special Task Force consisting of experts and representatives of institutions, which will have a single task of starting lobbies and co-ordination with the United States to avoid all legal barriers (recognition by 4 member veins) and technically for accelerated membership”, he added.

Hyesni has said Kosovo must be constantly co-ordinated with the US, Western partners in office of this mission

This should be done immediately and now start intensive negotiations with the American administration for accelerated Kosovo membership in NATO. The Russian invasion of sovereign Ukraine is a brave message for de-reliable policies everywhere, especially in the Balkans. Kosovo, from now on, also has to co-ordinate, co-ordinate and harmonise with time every step in its foreign and internal policies with the United States of America and other strategic Kosovo partners in the West”, it has ended.
