The letter calls for improving relations between the United States and Serbia, and according to Starovich, this is important news showing that Serbia has changed and has the capacity to design a true view of it worldwide.
Starovic told RTS that this was the result of the Serbian Embassy's dedicated work in Washington.
“ (Ambassador) Marko Djuric actually doubled the number of members of the Serbian group at the American Congress, which is a kind of friendship group with Serbia. We have a letter signed by 16 congressmen from both political parties. This is very important because it is not a party issue”, Starovic stressed.
He added that he personally cannot remember Serbia ever having such support at the American Congress, so many members who would sign such a letter.
Serbia has not engaged any lobby agency for this event, but is exclusively the result of our diplomacy activities in Washington”, Starovic stressed.
He stressed that the news caused a high degree of discontent in Pristina, primarily for the fact that, as he pointed out, they were sleepy in a sort of aprior and unremitting support from the United States.
“They are used to the fact that the situation in the Balkans will always be viewed by Washington in a binary way, where we have absolute allies and absolute rivals, where the role of bads will be reserved for Serbs in such an environment” Starovic explained.
Starovic said he is far from reaching the turning point, that there is still much work to be done, but that he thinks these are small successes that are slowly changing the dynamics of major power relations with Serbia.
