New research from Canada suggests it could happen.
Working with thousands of young, middle - aged, and old, the new study highlights what seems to be the direct damage to fat in one's ability to think quickly, with increased body fat levels linked to reducing mental health.
Our “genes are intriguing, because we show that fat, with its growth, not only increases traditional cardiovascular risk factors such as diabetes and high blood pressure, but also affects the results of the [mental capacity] <x1] tests, said the leading author of the study, Dr. Sonia Anand.
However, this does not mean that every aspect of one's thinking ability is tangible, Anand stressed.
Anand and her team, for example, found no connection between rising levels of excess fat and damaged memory or vocabulary.
But they identified a slowdown caused by fat in “the acceleration of processing”, which means the time needed to absorb, understand and react to images, sounds or movement.
