British Prime Minister Boris Johnson told Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky in a call Thursday that the “West will not stand aside as President Putin carried out his campaign against Ukrainian people”, according to Downing Street.
Johnson and Zelensky spoke on the phone following Russia's attack on Ukraine in the early hours Thursday, according to a statement posted on Twitter by Downing Street.
Johnson told Zelensky during the call that “ai was terrified of the events taking place in Ukraine”, the statement said. He added Johnson hoped that “Ukraine could resist” and that the United Kingdom had Ukrainians in their opinion “during this dark time”.
