German government gives over 100 euros to citizens for heating bills

Poor families and many students in Germany will receive help with high heating bills, the government decided on Wednesday. The money will be paid in the summer when citizens receive heating bills.
Singles will receive 135 euros, while families with two persons, 175 euros, with the price for each additional member expensive at 35 euros. Students are eligible for a financial assistance of 115 euros, the Express explains.
The rise in electricity prices is the main driver of inflation, which stood at 5% in December last year and 4.9% in January 2020, according to the Central Bureau of Statistics.
A recent study found that 44 percent of Germans said they would not be able to maintain the current standard of living because of high prices.
