In the same period of the year, 1874 cubic metres of wood have been confiscated from the Communist Units in Forestry and the Central Inspectorate, due to illegal acts and lack of documentation.
Given that forest damage continues to be disturbing, the UKPH has stressed that the Government of Kosovo has made a decision to establish Task Force for Legal Protection and Exploitation of Forestry, which is led by the Minister of Agriculture, Forestry and Rural Development, which includes representatives of several other institutions. In order to prevent and reduce illegal logging in forests, this Inter-institution Task Force last month has approved the Action Plan, where concrete actions for each institution are envisioned.
We remember that Kosovo has over 400,000 hectares of forest.
By “Global Forest Watch” from 2001 to 2017, about 337 million acres [373 ha] of trees have disappeared worldwide, an area almost equal to that of the state of India. Based on this report, the World Bank has reacted through an article that has stated that we are losing the battle if not the war, against deforestation, and certain key opportunities to deal with climate change are lacking.
Forests cover 31% of our planet's surface. They produce oxygen, provide shelter for humans and wild animals. Most endangered animals live in forests, but also 1.6 billion people depend on the goods that forests donate - food, water, clothing, traditional medicine, and shelter.
Deforestation of the earth has always occurred with reasoning about creating areas for planting or livestock. Direct causes of deforestation are the expansion of agriculture, the extraction of trees (e.g. Burning, processing etc.) and expanding infrastructure (building roads, urbanization, etc.). / RTV21
