The European Parliament on December 4th 1991 awarded the award to the Ademi Demac event, viewing it as a staunch fighter for freedom of thought and advocate of human freedom and rights.
Accepting the award as a tribute to the people of Kosovo, Demaci said that “liance of the word is the first, crucial step towards democracy. Without freedom of speech there is no dialogue, without dialogue the truth cannot be decided and without truth progress is impossible”.
Let's stress that this price had already been received: Saharov, whose name is Dubcek, Nelson Mandela, Marchenko, Aung Sun, some of whom (Mandela, Aung Su) later became Nobel Prize winners. On this occasion, in the European Parliament, Demach said that “by honoring me, you have honored my long-suffered people, but always likable, peace lovers and proud”.
On December 14, 1995 Adem Demac handed over the award for Human Rights at Oslo University. Demach, expressing thanks for this award, said: I understand this gratitude not only as gratitude for my work and my struggle for the rights of my people but also as the desire of the peace - loving Norwegian government to draw attention to the broad international opinion of the Kosovo problem.
Adem Demach was born in Pristina on February 26, 1936. It was from the village of Lupq of Podujevo.
Demac is among the most important names in Kosovo of peaceful freedom efforts and the rights of Kosovo Albanians within the former Socialist Socialist Republic of Yugoslavia. He had become known from childhood as a rioting voice in school banks. Demac never hesitated to condemn the numerous injustices of the Serbian regime.
