Without bread, without cleaning and sleeping: What is known so far from the plight of police trapped in the north

Many Kosovo police officers, now 11 days, have been trapped in Leposaviq and Jarinje, where barricades from Serb criminal groups are located, while maintaining the country's security. Periscope has learned that they are also on the verge of hunger and very serious conditions. This concern was raised before [...]
Five police units in the north are facing unusual situations, such as a lack of cleaning, food and sleeping space. Periscope has received good information regarding the state of this Kosovo police group.
“8 barricades are along the way and crossing is impossible. Alternative roads and magistrates are blocked. Police units are towards Jarinje, who goes north, and there is no chance of entering the territory that is more Albanianly inhabited. Food reserves are on the verge of completion. The food handles two meals and is dry, mostly of the cans, but it is being spent. No hot water to wash. None of the cops have been washed or shaved for 11 days. Clothes are all dangling. No bathroom. Sleep becomes a change in cars. The derivatives are spent, too, because when he's getting cold, cars are left on. Now the threat is showing and low temperatures, it's the same situation as at the front of war”, so they told Periscope good sources informed from the location of police units.
All hopes of entering the Albanian settlement are due to KFOR, while local Serbs have not yet had any clashes with them.
“KFOR was in that section yesterday because of the protest it was held, but they had no contact with the police. Police leaders have requested the Directorate in Pristina delocation, or more member changes, but have not received positive answers. Local Serbs are at the moment not causing any trouble, but there is fear because they are no longer looking at us well.
Concerned union for police trapped in the north: Health and Life Risked
Imer Zeqiri of this union has said that their concern and police management for colleagues there is enormous, adding that under these circumstances they are in danger of health and life because of conditions created under these circumstances, but also because of the environment in which they live.
Police: Blocking has created new working circumstances
Kosovo police today through a communique have announced the latest situation there, showing how new working circumstances have been created.
Strengthening order and public security, preventing criminal acts, as well as the enterprise of police measures conforming the situation and developments throughout the country, including developments in the country's north remain among the priorities of the Kosovo Police.
Since the establishment of nine (9) barricades by criminal persons/groups, the security situation in the north of the country continues to be the same, with two border checkpoints “Jarinje” and “Bernjak” still closed for circulation.
Referring to the created situation, the blocking of roads, of attacks by criminal groups, have created new working circumstances, and have also contributed to the lives of the citizens of the area, who cannot have free movement as well as are not having easy access to their necessary services.
Even in spite of these circumstances created in the country's north, Kosovo police are engaged in all forms to assist the demands and needs of non-discreet citizens, as well as to work on preventing criminal acts, which are being organised by persons involved in organised criminal groups from within and outside Kosovo.
In this direction, based on the information it possesses, Kosovo Police are closely co-operating with relevant security institutions, in undertaking necessary legal measures, in the interest of maintaining the constitutional order of the RKS, enabling free movement and bringing suspects' justice bodies to justice.
Kosovo police continue to be welcomed by citizens at the country's level, including by residents in the north of the country, who co-operate with police units, offering security and police services to non-disputed citizens.
State failed to provide food to the north, Svechla boasts that business is doing it
Minister Jhelal Svechla has confirmed the state's own failure to provide food to members of police who are continuing to stay in the north.
Svechla is proud of a Pristina local who has prepared food for them and even admitted that many generous businesses and families are doing the same, as if police were beggars and businesses were obliged to provide food for them rather than the state.
“One of Pristina's locals, like many generous businesses and families, has prepared food yesterday for our police officials engaged in the north in defense of our country.
We remember that the barricades were erected on December 10th in this part of Kosovo, as a sign of dissatisfaction with the arrest of former Kosovo Serb police official Dejan Pantic.
Until Kosovo Prime Minister Albin Kurti has said he expects KFOR to remove these barricades, United States envoy for the Western Balkans Gabriel Escobar has said he expects the barricades to be removed from persons who have established them. / P ERISCOPI/
