The American multimedia “reported this Tuesday. CNN”, referring to two American officials and a high-ranking administration representative.
The plan, which was developed by the U.S. Department of Defense, has yet to be approved by the Pentagon's head, Lloyd Austin, after which it will be sent to US President Joe Biden for signing. Three people told CNN that approval is expected.
Television channel conversationists show that once the plans are finalised, the system “Patriot” will be sent swiftly “in the days ahead “and Ukrainian forces will undergo training for their use at the base of the US Army in Germany.
Ukraine has repeatedly called on the United States to submit the Patriot air defence system to the backdrop of the continuing threat of missile attacks by Russia on energy infrastructure.
The Biden administration refused because of logistical problems and difficulties in maintaining installations.
The White House thought, according to one of CNN's conversationaries, was forced by the “reality of what is happening on the ground”.
It is not yet clear how many missile launchers will be sent, but a typical SAM battery includes a radar that detects and traces targets, computers, energy devices, a combat app control station and up to eight launchers, each with four missiles ready to launch.
The Patriot air defence system is an advanced long-range air defence system that is very effective in catching ballistic and navigation missiles. If taken, it will be the most effective long-range defence system Ukraine will receive from allies since the beginning of the war.
